“We don’t want to lose to anybody”- Juan Soto asserts Yankees’ desire to win and shuts down claims about Subway Series loss
New York Yankees outfielder Juan Soto had a solo home run, a double, and a walk, which let him go 2-for-3 against the New York Mets. However, it wasn’t enough, and his team still ended up losing Wednesday’s game 12-3.
Soto’s homer gave them a 2-1 lead in the third inning, but it didn’t last long as the Mets hitters wreaked havoc on the other end. Despite the Yankees’ ongoing slump, Soto has been tremendous throughout this season. The loss still affects the Yankees star.
“I mean, any loss. is, it matters for us. It’s tough to lose. It can be them or it can be whoever. We don’t want to lose to anybody. We want to win games. We want to go out there and dominate,” Soto said.
Soto has slashed .311/.435/.599, scored 83 runs and hit 26 long balls with five stolen bases this season. Not only that, in July, when the Yankees went downhill, Soto performed even better than before by hitting .342 with 15 extra-base hits in just 18 games.
Juan Soto receives praise from the former Yankees manager
Juan Soto’s exceptional 2024 campaign has already proven his worth as one of baseball’s premier talents.
Former manager Joe Torre expressed confidence in Soto’s ability to excel in dire situations, as he finds him a rare talent on the diamond, while teasing his New York return after this season.
“Soto, of course, we all noticed him when he came up with Washington and they won the World Series. He’s 25 years old, such a breath of fresh air with his personality. With the ability he has, you always hold your breath because you’re not sure coming to New York because it’s a little different animal,” Torre said. [via Pinstripes Nation].
Soto will be a free agent this offseason, and the Yankees might have to pay a hefty price to retain the right fielder. Soto’s agent, Scott Boras, is looking forward to demanding more than $550 million for the extension.
The New York Yankees are closely monitoring the situation with Juan Soto and will likely make him an extension offer before the season concludes.
