Tyson Fury is ready to wait until he’s 50 years old to finally face off against Anthony Joshua. The two British boxing icons have spent years circling each other without ever stepping into the ring together. There were plans for a highly anticipated double-header next year, with fights set to take place in both Saudi Arabia and London, but those hopes seem dashed after Joshua’s shocking knockout defeat to Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium.
Meanwhile, Fury is preparing for a rematch against Oleksandr Usyk on December 21, following his loss of the undisputed title in May. Despite the setbacks, the Gypsy King, now 36, warned Joshua that there’s no way out of their long-anticipated clash. “Joshua knows he’s getting it,” Fury stated ahead of the console release of the boxing video game Undisputed. “Even if we’re 50 years old, he’s got to fight me. There’s no escaping it.”
Fury confidently added, “Even if we are 50, we’ll still sell out Wembley. That’s a fact, and anyone else can get it too.”
Usyk, 37, recently made history as the first four-belt undisputed heavyweight champion when he took Fury’s WBC belt and unbeaten record. However, to set up their rematch, Usyk was compelled to vacate the IBF title, which Dubois, 27, then claimed after being elevated from interim champion. Dubois then caused an upset by knocking out Joshua, 34, in his first title defense, further complicating Fury’s plans to fight AJ.
Joshua has been in talks with promoter Eddie Hearn and Saudi boxing figure Turki Alalshikh, with a rematch against Dubois already in the works for February. The wait for Fury vs. Joshua continues, but Fury’s determination is clear: this showdown will happen, no matter how long it takes.
