Anthony Joshua versus Daniel Dubois is shaping up to be a thrilling all-British heavyweight clash set for September at Wembley, as part of Riyadh Season’s first UK promotional effort.
The fight comes at a crucial juncture for both fighters. Daniel Dubois is riding high after two significant victories—he stopped Jarrell Miller in the 10th round last December and secured a stoppage win over Filip Hrgovic in March. These wins followed setbacks earlier in his career, including a loss to Joe Joyce and a stoppage by Oleksandr Usyk.
On the other hand, Anthony Joshua, after back-to-back defeats to Usyk, has bounced back with knockout victories over Robert Helenius, Otto Wallin, and Francis Ngannou in the past 18 months.
David Price, a former heavyweight and former sparring partner of Joshua, shared his thoughts with iFLTV. Price believes Dubois has a solid chance, saying, “I think styles make fights. Dubois doesn’t want to let Joshua land too many clean right hands early on. The least it will do is bust his face up. But Dubois has proved everyone wrong since the Joyce fight. He’s shown a lot of heart and courage, and he’s had some big wins. I’d say it’s a 60-40 in Joshua’s favor, but he’ll survive a couple of scares and stop him late.”
Price also recounted a memorable sparring session where he knocked out a young Joshua, a story that Joshua himself has confirmed, noting that he had been in jail the night before. At that time, Joshua was an amateur, and Price was in the early stages of his professional career.
The fight will be Dubois’s first defense of the IBF World Heavyweight Championship, which he acquired after Usyk vacated the title to pursue a rematch with Tyson Fury.
