Sergio Perez will stay withRed Bull for the remainder of the 2024 F1 season, the team has confirmed.
The 34-year-old’s future is under threat, but the champions have decided to continue to trust Perez for the rest of the campaign.
The news comes after a key meeting of Red Bull’s senior management earlier today.
The Mexican is believed to be replaced by Liam Lawson or Daniel Ricciardo amid reports of a “shootout” between the two drivers at Wednesday’s Imola test.
However, Red Bull have now made a firm decision on Perez despite his poor form since the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in May.
The six-time grand prix winner has scored just 28 points in the last eight races, in stark contrast to the 141 points his three-time F1 team-mate Max Verstappen has managed.
Team principal Christian Horner made the announcement to the Red Bull team at the team’s factory in Milton Keynes.
A Red Bull spokesperson confirmed: “Checo remains a Red Bull Racing driver despite recent speculation and we look forward to seeing him compete at the tracks where he excelled after the summer break.”
