Ralf Schumacher reportedly wanted his ex-wife, Cora Schumacher, to drop her surname amid their bitter row.
But Cora has now made it clear she won’t be doing that, with the 47-year-old taking to social media to update fans.
Ralf and Cora married in 2001 and share one child together, with the pair then splitting in 2015.
Back in July, however, the former Formula One driver revealed he was gay and in a relationship with a French business manager named Etienne.
According to BILD, Ralf wanted Cora to drop her famous surname after the pair recently rowed on social media.
The 47-year-old former model said she felt ‘used’ and had ‘wasted her best years’ after being left reeling by his personal announcement.
Yet Cora, speaking in a video uploaded to her Instagram account, has now made it clear she won’t be doing that.
“I’m feeling a little better again,” she said.
“Even though it would make many people happy, no, I haven’t lost my smile.
“And I will wait – wait, let me think – keep my name. Especially now.”
She also said that she originally considered giving up the Schumacher name but, after being through too much ‘pain and sorry’, Cora is now sticking with it.
“I actually intended to give up this name (Schumacher),” she added.
“But no. It has cost me enough pain and sorrow. Cora Schumacher is my brand, which I built up independently on my own.”
Cora said last month that she was hurt by her ex-husband’s announcement. Ralf then responded by saying she knew about his sexuality before he went public with his new relationship, even sharing messages between the pair on WhatsApp.
Cora’s mother, however, recently backed her daughter and said that Ralf ‘always denied rumours he was gay’.
Ingrid Brinkmann told BILD: “I feel sorry for Cora, how she is now being insulted in public and portrayed as a liar.
“I talked to Ralf and asked him why there was always trouble.
“He sat opposite me and said: ‘Ingrid, I’m telling you, I’m definitely not gay. Those are just rumours.'”
She also said that Ralf told the family that he loved Cora, too.
“Cora married Ralf out of love. Ralf also told us that he loves Cora,” she said.
“Of course he slept with Cora.
“That’s why we all thought it was a nasty rumour that Ralf was gay.”
