Rodri and Alvaro Morata Under UEFA Investigation for Comments During Euro 2024 Victory Parade.
Spain’s national football team held a victory parade after winning the Euro 2024 championship, marking their fourth European title and solidifying their status as the most successful team in the tournament’s history.
Rodri and Alvaro Morata played crucial roles in Spain’s journey to the championship, which took place in Germany. Rodri, a key midfielder, managed Spain’s gameplay until he was injured in the final match against England. Meanwhile, Alvaro Morata, the team captain, scored one goal in seven appearances for La Roja.
During the jubilant celebration of the victory parade, Rodri and Morata enthusiastically sang, “Gibraltar belongs to Spain.” This prompted the Gibraltar Football Association to file a complaint with UEFA.
An official statement read: “The Gibraltar Football Association finds the celebrations of the Spanish men’s national team after winning Euro 2024 to be provocative and offensive.
This morning, the Association received advice to file a complaint with UEFA regarding the unacceptable chants about Gibraltar made by Spanish players following their Euro 2024 victory.
Football has no place for such behavior.”
Recently, UEFA confirmed that it will investigate Rodri and Morata for their actions during the celebration in Madrid.
“A UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector has been appointed to assess the potential violation of UEFA’s disciplinary regulations by players Rodrigo Hernandez Cascante and Alvaro Morata in connection with their conduct during the UEFA Euro 2024 victory parade in Madrid on July 15, 2024,” the statement read.
