Lewis Hamilton has bagged himself a new job after being named as one of the co-chairs for the 2025 Met Gala in a surprise move away from Formula One.
As well as Hamilton, several other celebrities will also take part in the fashion event including Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour.
NBA superstar LeBron James has also been named as honorary chair for the festival, which is commonly regarded as the world’s most prestigious and glamorous fashion event.
Speaking on social media, Hamilton wrote: “I’m beyond honored to be one of the co-chairs for next year’s Met Gala, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.
“This theme speaks to me deeply. When I started my career I never imagined what I might be capable of beyond my sport.
“The pressure to conform holds so many people back. Growing up as the only Black kid on the track, so often that pressure got to me.
“Expressing myself creatively was and still is my freedom from that conformity. For Black people across the diaspora, fashion is self-preservation.
“Fashion is resilience, and I can’t wait to further explore and amplify our underrepresented voices.
“Thank you to the @metcostumeinstitute for the platform to uplift Black creatives on this scale.”
Hamilton is a well-known fashion aficionado and is often spotted on F1 paddocks in extravagant outfits.
The Mercedes star will not be with the car manufacturers for much longer after agreeing to join Ferrari next year.
It comes after 11 years with the Silver Arrows, winning four world titles in a row from 2017 to 2020.
In total, the 39-year-old has seven world titles – holding the record for the joint-most alongside legendary Michael Schumacher.
And while the Briton is set to join Ferrari, there might be one eye on retirement as he takes up a new post away from motorsport in fashion.
“Honestly, one of my dreams is I have thought about creating my own diverse LVMH (Louis Vuitton and Moet Hennessy’s luxury good conglomerate),” Hamilton said.
“Like, I don’t know if we live in a time where that’s really possible. But that’s something that I’m conceptualising.
“We’ve got an opportunity to really lift people up, and let them get in the jet stream. I think about LVMH and, of course, I love Pharrell (fellow Met Gala 2025 co-chair).
“He’s been, since I was a kid, just musically and creatively, someone that I really aspire to be like. And I was really split, having now been in the space, on the decision that LVMH took.”
