Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is thrilled to see his longtime friend and former teammate Dwyane Wade honored with a statue outside the Miami Heat’s Kaseya Center.
On Thursday night, James took to his Instagram story to share the Heat’s announcement about the statue, which will be unveiled on Sunday, Oct. 27. The ceremony will be followed by a special “Statue Night” during the Heat’s game against the Detroit Pistons on Monday, Oct. 28.
Wade, who was drafted by the Heat as the No. 5 overall pick in 2003, played a pivotal role in securing the franchise’s first championship in 2006, earning Finals MVP honors for his efforts.
LeBron and Wade later teamed up in Miami, where they led the Heat to four consecutive NBA Finals appearances and secured back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013. Their partnership became one of the most iconic duos in NBA history.
After brief stints with the Chicago Bulls and Cleveland Cavaliers, Wade returned to Miami, where he ultimately retired following the 2018-19 season with a career average of 22.0 points per game.
In 2020, Wade’s jersey was retired by the Heat, an occasion that LeBron marked with a heartfelt video tribute to his former teammate. With the statue unveiling taking place between two Lakers games, there’s a slim chance James could attend the ceremony, although it would be a tight squeeze. The Lakers are set to play the Phoenix Suns on the road the following night.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the tribute, which will serve as a lasting testament to Wade’s legendary impact on the Miami Heat and the NBA
