Jake Paul has revealed his mother is “very scared” as he prepares to fight Mike Tyson later this year.

The 27-year-old has been widely criticised for agreeing to fight Tyson, who is 31 years his senior at 58.

The boxing legend’s last fight was in 2020, when his fight with Roy Jones Jr ended in a draw.

Tyson has been working hard in the gym and posting footage of himself punching weights on social media to prove he’s still as strong as ever.

And Paul, speaking to talkSPORT, revealed his mother is “very scared” as the fight takes place.

“They’ll definitely be there,” he said when asked if his mother and girlfriend, Jutta Leerdam, will be there to watch the fight.

“But my mum was actually scared.

“She kept asking me if I was ready, asking my whole team if I was ready and she didn’t like it.

“Mike looked so scary and huge… his Instagram videos were crazy.

“So she watched all that and didn’t like it.”

Paul is set to earn a whopping £31m from fighting Tyson, while Tyson’s earnings are yet to be revealed.

Paul has so far pocketed an estimated £75.8m from his boxing career, despite being new to the sport.

But the former YouTuber and Disney star is trying to keep his cool. When asked about his earnings, he added: “It’s not bad, man, I can’t believe it.

“I’ve exceeded all my own expectations in life, in boxing and everything.

“So whatever happens next is just normal and I’m just happy with it and trying to inspire other kids because I’m from Ohio really.

“He grew up in a normal working-class family in this town and didn’t know anything about the world.

“And it really shows that if you want to do something, you have to do it.”

Meanwhile, Hollywood star Russell Crowe admitted he’s not sure whether Tyson can turn back the clock when he returns to the ring later this year.

Speaking on Joe Rogan’s podcast earlier this week, he said: “The thing is, I quite enjoyed the second part of Mike’s life.

“I was so scared of him when he was a boxer. He was so scary.

“Even when I met him backstage at a stadium during a fight, I was like, ‘I’m still scared of you’.

“Then he started to become more of an explorer and figure out what life is about and he smokes occasionally? I was like, ‘I like this Mike, I like the evolution’.

“What bothered me about the whole thing was that he had to slide back into that warrior stance and I wasn’t sure if he needed to.”
