“It’s going to be a huge difference”Fans raise concerns after watching Jake Paul vs. Mike Perry opener
Boxing fans believe Mike Perry has no chance against Jake Paul after watching his pad session at Wednesday’s open workout.
The two fighters are set to clash on Saturday night at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. Perry and Paul showcased their skills in front of the media on Wednesday night, with DAZN capturing the event.
Ahead of their eight-round cruiserweight bout, both men took turns working out in front of the assembled press.
Perry started first, warming up with some light shadow boxing before hitting the pads. While he appeared sharp at times, he occasionally missed the mitts, which led to fans criticizing his performance.
Reacting to a clip from his open workout, one fan tweeted: “I know pad work doesn’t mean s***, but I promise you this fight is gonna be a mismatch. Mike Perry can’t f***ing box and he gets hit too much. He’s getting knocked out, so brace yourselves, guys.”
Another wrote: “Mike Perry couldn’t box eggs.”
A third added: “Jake looks much sharper.”
Meanwhile, a fourth commented: “Mike Perry looks worse than a white-collar fighter.”
Perry opens as a 16/5 underdog with the bookmakers but, on paper, he represents one of Paul’s toughest challenges to date. ‘Platinum’ boasts an unbeaten 5-0 record in bare-knuckle boxing with BKFC and is in his physical prime at 32, unlike many of Paul’s previous opponents. Perry competed at welterweight (170lbs) in the UFC and fights at 185lbs in BKFC. He has never fought as high as cruiserweight (200lbs), which is Paul’s natural weight class.
The ex-Disney star was originally slated to face Mike Tyson this weekend in a heavyweight bout, but that fight was postponed after ‘Iron Mike’ suffered an ulcer flare-up. Tyson was deemed medically unfit to compete this summer, so their crossover contest was rescheduled for November 15, with Perry stepping in to face Paul on the initially proposed date.
