Red Bull team boss Christian Horner proudly boasted that Max Verstappen is the only constant in F1 in recent times despite the team celebrating its sixth win of the season on Sunday. Lewis Hamilton’s spectacular victory in British Formula 1 brought a moment of joy to the sport as the seven-time F1 champion ended a winless streak spanning two and a half years and 56 races. Notably, it was the first time since 2012 that the sport saw six different drivers win, demonstrating the dominance of Red Bull and Mercedes since that remarkable event .
Hamilton’s 104th F1 victory comes after wins by Max Verstappen, Carlos Sainz, Lando Norris, Charles Leclerc and George Russell this season. “I think Formula One couldn’t be in a better position at the moment,” Horner told the media, including RacingNews365. “If you look at the last five, six races, we’ve had Lewis, we’ve had Lando, we’ve had Max, we’ve had Charles. It’s changing.”
However, Horner couldn’t help but gloat: “The only person who can constantly be there is Max. “I think the sport is really in a…you can see that in the crowds, and I’m sure Lewis’ win was a very welcome one in front of the home crowd .”
Despite the fallout from the 2021 turmoil when Hamilton was denied a record-breaking eighth drivers’ championship in controversial circumstances, allowing Verstappen to win his first, Horner remained generous when he lost to the 39-year-old racer after the race at Silverstone.
Hamilton beat Verstappen by a gap of 1.5 seconds to end a series of 946 days without a win, and thereby became the first driver in F1 history to attend the same race nine times. Despite any previous antipathy towards Hamilton, Horner said: “We have to congratulate Lewis for the win. I think he raced very well and was a worthy winner. “Of course, it was incredibly emotional, and for any driver to win a race nine times is an outstanding achievement, and to win here in the Kingdom England, obviously it’s very special for him as a British rider, he should be very proud of that. “So our hats off to him. He did a very, very good job.”
