The assault case against Calvin Ford, a boxing coach of Baltimore native Gervonta Davis, was dismissed Tuesday by a Nevada judge.
Ford, 58, faced two charges of assault with a deadly weapon, but the case was dismissed.
The court proceeding stemmed from an incident in February 2023 where Ford allegedly threatened two people. The Baltimore Sun previously reported that two men said Ford hired them to transport his 2021 Cadillac Escalade from Baltimore to Las Vegas for $2,000. A Las Vegas attorney representing Ford and the Clark County District Attorney’s Office did not return request for comment Wednesday. According to court records, prosecutors previously needed to contact a Russian interpreter for a witness.
According to charging documents, Ford told the men he would not pay the full amount due to his car sustaining damages during transport. After a back and forth, Ford offered to pay a partial amount. The men refused the offer.
“Ford lifted his shirt and exposed a black firearm and stated, ‘you don’t have any problems and I don’t want any problems, get out of here before I kill you,’” the charging documents state.
Police say video surveillance shows Ford taking possession of the vehicle and talking to the men.
Ford was out on bail and maintained his innocence. Ford was in Gervonta Davis’s corner for his June 15 defeat of Frank Martin in the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
