Drake’s Controversial Response to Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Halftime Show Announcement
Drake appears to be unfazed by the recent announcement that his rival Kendrick Lamar will headline the Super Bowl LIX halftime show in 2025. The Canadian rapper, 37, sparked speculation with his Instagram Story on September 11, where he shared five photos of Lil Wayne. This move has been interpreted by many as a subtle jab at Lamar’s new gig.
The connection between Wayne, 41, and the Super Bowl announcement is not lost on fans and artists alike. Many believe Wayne deserved the halftime show slot, especially given that the event will be held in his hometown of New Orleans.
Master P voiced his disappointment via Instagram, advocating for Wayne’s inclusion in the Super Bowl festivities. “As Ambassador of Entertainment in the City of New Orleans, I have to agree with the fans that @liltunechi #LilWayne should be a part of this celebration as well,” wrote Master P. “He’s one of the greatest Hip Hop artists alive, still relevant, and he’s a New Orleans native. Let’s not miss this cultural moment in the South. Life is too short! We have to give our legends their flowers while they are here.”
Adding fuel to the fire, Cam’ron and Mase expressed their frustration on their podcast. Cam’ron, 48, remarked, “I love Kendrick Lamar … I hate the selection. It’s in New Orleans and you don’t get Lil Wayne? That’s what we’re doing? You don’t get Lil Wayne in New Orleans for the Super Bowl? There’s no reason why Lil Wayne shouldn’t be performing in the Super Bowl.
