Former UFC champion Conor McGregor was at a packed Wembley Stadium – and he shared his thoughts on Anthony Joshua’s boxing future following his shock defeat
Conor McGregor insists Anthony Joshua should continue boxing despite being stopped by Daniel Dubois.
The UFC star was among a host of big names who witnessed the record-breaking event. During the bout, he could be seen jumping up and putting his hands on his head, seemingly in disbelief at the devastating performance put on by IBF champion Dubois.
Speaking to Stomping Ground, McGregor was visibly excited, explaining: “AJ is the best. This is his eighth show at the stadium. He’s a legend forever.”
Asked about AJ’s future in the sport, McGregor dismissed any talk of retirement, saying: “Absolutely, he took him down, he fought back, he was still standing but then he went up and got hit. That’s just boxing. You get hit, you can catch someone. Of course he can definitely come back.”
Earlier in the night, the former double UFC champion gave an update on his own future, speaking to DAZN at the National Stadium, wearing a signature baseball cap as he entered the ring, saying: “It’s going to be 2025… we’ll see. The opponent I’ve got booked is back.
“That’s what I have to do… my job is to go to the gym; stay in shape. One thing is for sure… I’ll be 100% ready.”
The Irishman has not fought since losing to Dustin Poirier in July 2021, when McGregor suffered a horrific broken leg.
Since then, he has had a fight with American Michael Chandler postponed due to McGregor breaking his toe in training camp.
