The lawsuit filed by musicians Joshua Fraustro and Miguel Aguilar, known as Kemika1956, alleges that Cardi B and others used their song “Greasy Frybread” without permission. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, names Cardi B, OG Parker, DJ Swanqo, Atlantic Records, Celebrity Booking Agency, and Warner Music Group as defendants.
According to the plaintiffs, Cardi B and her team infringed on their copyright by reproducing, distributing, and publicly performing their work in Cardi B’s record “Enough (Miami).” The song “Greasy Frybread” was featured in the FX series “Rez Dogs” in 2021.
Fraustro and Aguilar claim to have suffered substantial damages, including financial losses and harm to their artistic reputation and marketability. They are seeking $50 million in damages as per court records.
Representatives for Cardi B were contacted for comment but did not immediately respond. The lawsuit underscores the legal complexities surrounding copyright infringement in the music industry, particularly concerning the use of sampled or borrowed material without proper permission.
