Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury moves closer as landmark broadcast deal is signed
The long-awaited clash between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury is edging closer to reality. Reports suggest that broadcaster DAZN is on the verge of securing a deal that would bring promoters Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn under the same umbrella.
The Times has reported that DAZN is confident of finalizing a long-term agreement with Queensberry Promotions, potentially within weeks. This deal would represent a “seismic shift” in boxing, as Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing has been partnered with DAZN since 2021.
Anthony Joshua, the star of Matchroom Boxing, has a career-long deal with DAZN and holds equity in the broadcaster. Tyson Fury, promoted by Warren, would thus be aligned with the same service under the new arrangement. Queensberry Promotions is currently contracted to TNT Sports until 2025, but the new deal with DAZN would take effect once that contract expires, making DAZN the “home of UK boxing.”
DAZN has previously sub-licensed TV deals with TNT and Sky Sports for major pay-per-view fights, including those involving Fury and Joshua in Saudi Arabia. This move would consolidate their broadcasting rights, streamlining the viewing experience for boxing fans.
Tyson Fury is set to fight Oleksandr Usyk in December in Saudi Arabia. The Gypsy King faced his first professional defeat against Usyk in May. Meanwhile, Anthony Joshua will face Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in September for the IBF heavyweight title vacated by Usyk.
Should both fighters emerge victorious, the stage could be set for a monumental showdown between Fury and Joshua in 2025, marking one of the most anticipated British boxing matches in history. The venue for this historic fight, whether in Riyadh or London, remains to be determined.
