Anthony Joshua has already engaged in “proactive talks” just days after suffering a knockout defeat at the hands of Daniel Dubois. Joshua, who was knocked down four times before being stopped by a devastating right hand in the fifth round, fought in front of a British-record crowd of 98,000 at Wembley.
Despite the tough loss, AJ has no intention of retiring and has quickly announced his plans to continue fighting. Shortly after the match, Joshua was seen alongside his promoter Eddie Hearn and Saudi Arabia’s boxing head, Turki Alalshikh, hinting that his next bout is already in the works.
Alalshikh shared, “The Champ will return soon,” while Joshua, 34, responded, “Proactive talks. Thank you to all my supporters who came to the fight, I appreciate you all.”
Joshua, a two-time heavyweight champion, still has one fight remaining under his contract with Alalshikh’s Riyadh Season, and a rematch with Dubois, 27, remains a potential option.
However, Joshua’s next opponent could also be Tyson Fury, 36, who is set to rematch Oleksandr Usyk, 37, on December 21. Another wildcard possibility is a bout against American knockout artist Deontay Wilder, 38, who is coming off two consecutive losses.
In an interview with iFL TV, Eddie Hearn outlined several potential scenarios for Joshua’s future. He stated, “If Fury was to lose, maybe they both say, ‘Right, let’s give the public one last hurrah, two big fights, done.’ Or, if Fury wins, he could defend against AJ for the unified world heavyweight title, and AJ could beat him and become a three-time heavyweight champion.”
Hearn added, “Anything’s possible. We could rematch Daniel Dubois, or maybe fight someone else—Deontay Wilder. It’s not something we’ve discussed yet, but two guys coming off defeats, both big punchers, someone’s got to go from the sport.”
For now, the immediate options for Joshua seem to be a rematch with Dubois or waiting to see the outcome of the Fury vs. Usyk fight. Either way, fans are eager to see what comes next for the British heavyweight star.
