In a momentous archaeological expedition amid the rugged terrain of the Pelješac Peninsula, the team from Dubrovnik Museums has uncovered a remarkable relic of the ancient past—a Greek-Illyrian helmet. Discovered at the “Gomila” site in Zakotorac, nestled within a stone addition to graves believed to have votive significance, this find illuminates the burial customs of Illyrian communities from the latter half of the first millennium BC.
Led by Dr. Domagoj Perkić, Head of the Archaeological Museum, and supported by assistant curators Paula Knego and Vicenco Pijerov, the Dubrovnik Museums team embarked on a journey of discovery that transcends time itself. Their collaborative efforts, guided by esteemed archaeologists including Hrvoje Potrebica, Marko Dizdar, Borut Križ, Marta Kalebota, Miona Miliša, Miroslav Vuković, Mirna Šandrić, and assisted by Ivan Pamić, culminated in a revelation echoing through history’s corridors.
