‘Will History Repeat Again’: Canelo Alvarez Will Get “His A** Whooped Again” by Floyd Mayweather, Predicts Jeff Mayweather After Dominant Edgar Berlanga Win

Eleven years after their much-anticipated fight, Floyd Mayweather’s camp still seems to downplay Canelo Alvarez’s potential, even as the Mexican boxing icon continues to build his legacy. Canelo, fresh off a victory against Edgar Berlanga in Las Vegas, delivered a dominant performance, securing a unanimous decision win and knocking Berlanga down in the third round.

However, Jeff Mayweather, Floyd’s uncle and a respected trainer, didn’t hold back when asked about Canelo’s performance and a hypothetical rematch between Canelo and a prime Mayweather. In an interview on The Mayweather Channel, Jeff acknowledged Canelo’s success but insisted that today’s version of the fighter isn’t as sharp as he once was. “Canelo’s Canelo. We’ve seen a little bit of Canelo, but not as good as the Canelo we’ve seen in the past,” he said. Despite this, he noted that Canelo had a “dominant performance.”

The conversation shifted to a hypothetical second fight between Mayweather and Canelo, with Jeff boldly claiming that the outcome would be the same as their 2013 encounter. “Yeah, [he has] no chance like he did last time… [He would get] his a** whooped again… Just like [it] happened the first time,” Jeff stated confidently.

When pressed by the interviewer about Canelo’s numerous achievements since their bout, Jeff dismissed the idea that Canelo had surpassed Mayweather’s legacy. He highlighted Floyd’s accomplishments across multiple weight classes and argued that Mayweather was still “the face of boxing.” Despite Floyd’s retirement, Jeff stood firm, insisting that even today, Canelo wouldn’t have a chance against his nephew.

Hearing this, Jeff expressed his disagreement, claiming, “Floyd is the face of boxing too… Floyd fought in many weight classes, too.” Jeff Mayweather remained adamant about it even though Floyd has retired from the sport while Canelo remains active and has fought and won many more fights compared to Floyd. Despite what Jeff says, Canelo Alvarez wants all the smoke.

Canelo Alvarez has expressed a strong desire for a rematch with Floyd Mayweather, reflecting on their first encounter as a pivotal moment in his career. In a recent interview with DAZN Boxing, Canelo stated, “Yes, of course. I would love to have the opportunity for revenge. Obviously, we know it’s not going to happen. But yes, I would love to get rid of that little thorn.”

The 2013 fight, where Mayweather’s defensive brilliance and counter-punching led to Alvarez’s first professional defeat, is often cited as a turning point in Canelo’s development. Since then, Canelo has evolved into a multi-division world champion, while Mayweather remains one of the greatest technically proficient boxers of all time.

It appears despite numerous achievements, Jeff Mayweather feels Canelo Alvarez wouldn’t have a chance against his nephew Floyd Mayweather. However, that could just be his biased take on the matter. What do you think about the potential fight?
