Lewis Hamilton Issues Latest Statement Explaining His ‘Horror’ At Azerbaijan Formula 1 Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton has given an honest assessment of his performance at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix where he finished ninth.

That was despite an excellent opportunity to take advantage of a huge crash between Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz.

Having started the race on Sunday from the pit lane after an engine penalty, giving Hamilton an uphill battle from the start.

And the seven-time world champion has admitted he is disappointed with how he performed in Baku but has high hopes for the Singapore Grand Prix next week.

Hamilton posted on X: “Tough weekend, but we move. Good battles, and good effort from the team. Singapore soon, send good vibes.”

He further commented on Instagram: “The weekend started with a lot of positives but by the end it was a tough one for all of us.

“Still, we recognize what went well and will learn from what didn’t.

“It wasn’t easy, but I’m proud of every member of this team for the hard work that got us to the end.

“Congrats to George (Russell) on the podium, and to @francolapinto and @olliebearman as well.

“It was a great fight, and it’s amazing to see so much new talent coming in.”

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri claimed first place on Sunday after a lengthy battle with Ferrari star Charles Leclerc, who collided on the penultimate lap with Perez.

Mercedes star George Russell was promoted to third, as a result, while Lando Norris and Max Verstappen finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Silver Arrows team principal Toto Wolff was heard during the race giving his honest opinion to Hamilton, saying: “Lewis, good to make it to the end, that was a horror race.

“I can so relate to it, we can all relate to it. At least we have taken the penalty now. Let’s move forward, look forward.”

Speaking after the race, Hamilton was not happy with the decision to change power units before the race, blaming that for his struggles to overtake in the Azerbaijan capital.

“I knew it was going to be a disastrous race as soon as this decision was made last night,” he said.

“It was pretty good on Friday but I think the others have developed and we haven’t in this phase – but we have some stuff coming.”
