Mike Tyson expressed immense joy when Tyson Fury defeated Deontay Wilder. Despite Wilder being an American like Tyson, the heavyweight legend clearly supported Fury during their rematch in 2020. Tyson developed a fondness for the Gypsy King after learning the touching story of how Fury was named after him when he was born prematurely.
Reflecting on the difficult birth of his son, Fury Sr. recounted to ITV: “The doctor said he probably won’t make it, he’s very weak. I said to all them doctors, he won’t be small, I said he’ll be nearly 7ft tall, 20 stone, the next heavyweight champion of the world.”
John’s prophecy proved true as the young Tyson battled through adversity to survive and later followed in the footsteps of his father and namesake to become a boxer himself.
