‘Stop Embarrassing Yourself’ Oscar De La Hoya Calls Floyd Mayweather’s Latest Exhibition Fight ‘A Real Sh*t Show’

“The Golden Boy” Offers Advice to “Money”

Oscar De La Hoya has some strong words for Floyd Mayweather following his recent exhibition match with John Gotti III. The former boxing champion didn’t hold back, expressing his disappointment over Mayweather’s continued participation in exhibition bouts, urging him to focus on preserving his legacy rather than engaging in what De La Hoya called embarrassing spectacles.

Oscar Criticizes Floyd’s Match Against Gotti III

Using his Instagram platform, De La Hoya voiced his frustration with Mayweather’s latest exhibition fight. According to “The Golden Boy,” the match against Gotti III was a disorganized mess that ended with boos from the audience. The situation escalated when Mayweather controversially replaced the referee mid-fight, reportedly because the ref reprimanded him for illegal punches.

“Floyd Mayweather fought another exhibition against Gotti last Saturday, and it was a complete disaster. By the second round, Floyd had the referee swapped out because he didn’t like being told to stop hitting behind the head. It was embarrassing for him and the sport,” De La Hoya commented.

De La Hoya’s Advice to Mayweather

De La Hoya, who lost to Mayweather in 2007, then offered advice to his former rival, suggesting that Mayweather should prioritize his legacy over money. He hinted that Mayweather might be facing financial troubles, noting rumors of lawsuits and assets being sold.

“Floyd, you’re 50 years old,” De La Hoya said. “You’ve done so much for boxing, but it’s time to stop embarrassing yourself with these exhibitions. I get it, life’s expensive, but you should be focusing on protecting your legacy. Nobody wants to remember you like this. I’m rooting for you, Floyd! Let’s turn it around.”

Mayweather, who retired undefeated after his 2017 victory over Conor McGregor, has since taken up a series of exhibition matches, where he has yet to lose. However, De La Hoya’s remarks suggest that the quality and purpose of these exhibitions are damaging the image of a fighter once regarded as one of the greatest in the sport.
