Anthony Joshua Retirement Update Given By Eddie Hearn Ahead Of Blockbuster Daniel Dubois Fight

Eddie Hearn has hinted Anthony Joshua won’t be retiring any time soon ahead of the 34-year-old’s upcoming fight with Daniel Dubois.

AJ will be hoping to continue his impressive form, with the Briton beating Francis Ngannou, Otto Wallin, Robert Helenius and Jermaine Franklin Jr ever since his two defeats to Oleksandr Usyk in 2021 and 2022.

At the age of 34, it’s currently unclear how long Joshua will continue to operate at the peak of his powers for.

He was written off as a faded force after losing to Usyk two years ago yet his stunning performances in the time since have seen his stock soar.

Hearn, speaking to talkSPORT, has now hinted that Joshua won’t be retiring any time soon.

The boxing promoter, who represents the Briton, says the Watford-born star is eyeing five more career fights at least.

He also says he’s never seen Joshua be so passionate about the sport.

Hearn said: “Everything changes after every fight, but I think I’ve never seen him enjoy boxing so much.

“The preparation, the team. It’s simple but effective. I think he’s really found his rhythm with Ben [Davison] and the camp there.

“And I think if you look back after the Oleksandr Usyk fights you might have said, ‘How many more fights? Three? Five?’

“Well we’ve had four since then and now we’re saying five [more] still.

“It’s always fight by fight.”

Dubois, however, won’t be an easy test for Joshua.

The 27-year-old, who lost to Usyk himself last year, has since proceeded to beat Farrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic.

Hearn believes Dubois is a ‘dangerous’ opponent for Joshua.

And he’s also upped the ante when it comes to mind games by saying his fighter isn’t necessarily the favourite to win the showdown.

“This is a very dangerous fight, but it’s a great fight,” said the 45-year-old.

“And as it gets closer I think people are starting to realise.

“People in boxing know what a great fight it is, but I think the general consensus is, ‘Oh, AJ’s a massive favourite.’

“I think he is a favourite, but if you look at people’s assessment within boxing.

“Obviously, they’re much more skewed towards it being a 50/50 than maybe the man on the street who doesn’t know a great deal about Dubois and the run that he’s on.

“I think they’re both in absolutely prime form but I do make Anthony the favourite in the fight.”
