Sky Commentator Loses His Cool Over Lewis Hamilton’s Us Open Appearance Outside F1

When Formula 1 legend Lewis Hamilton decided to swap his racing helmet for a courtside seat at the US Open final, it wasn’t just fans who were excited to see him. Among those particularly delighted to spot the motorsports icon living at the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center were Sky Sports commentators, with 2013 Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli going wild to spot the seven-time champion.

During a tense match between Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula, Bartoli’s attention was diverted when the cameras captured Hamilton entering. Unable to contain her excitement, she shouted, “Oh my gosh! I have to find him!” into the camera.

Gigi Salmon chimed in: “Lewis Hamilton has found his way in. Marion has made no secret of the fact that she admires him.”

Bartoli was determined to meet the seven-time world champion, reiterating resolutely, “I have to find him, I have to find a way.” The sudden shift in focus led to banter between the Sky Sports panel, including Gigi Salmon and retired Spanish tennis star Feliciano Lopez.

Lopez couldn’t help but tease Bartoli, joking that “[Fernando] Alonso is a better driver,” referring to Hamilton’s Spanish rival, who now drives for Aston Martin.

Salmon added humorously: “Feli, she would throw you off the balcony if you said something like that. But I’m not kidding.”

Not only did Hamilton’s appearance create huge excitement among the pundits, his appearance alongside Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour added to the celebrity list for the US Open final. Celebrities including Travis Scott and Rory McIlroy also took part this weekend.

It was a brief respite for the future Ferrari driver, who has endured a challenging 2024 season in his Mercedes. The Briton has endured a mixed bag of results throughout the season, suffering setbacks such as a DNF in Australia and a number of mid-pack finishes. Despite these struggles, Hamilton has still managed to showcase his world-class talent, claiming key podium finishes, including a surprise win at his home race at Silverstone and another maiden podium in Belgium after team-mate George Russell was disqualified.

Hamilton is currently sixth in the Drivers’ Standings, behind Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, who he will replace next year, while his team-mate Russell is eighth.
