The first footage from Mike Perry’s training camp ahead of his fight with Jake Paul has been released. ‘Platinum’ Perry stepped in to replace Mike Tyson, who pulled out of his much-anticipated fight with the social media star set for July 20th in Tampa, Florida.
In the clip shared on Instagram by the former UFC fighter, Perry can be seen working on his striking game with his coach, but the reaction to the footage has not been overwhelmingly positive. The 32-year-old has only fought once in a traditional boxing ring, losing his debut to Kenneth McNeil via a fourth-round knockout back in 2015. That lack of experience could be a significant disadvantage against the 9-1 Paul in their upcoming showdown.
Even for Perry’s fans, the pace of the first sparring video from his preparations isn’t exactly inspiring confidence. The bare-knuckle boxing star’s punches lacked snap and appeared to be thrown in slow motion. The training footage from Mike Perry’s camp for the Jake Paul fight looks worryingly underwhelming.
One of the most liked comments on the video is from a follower who predicted that “he is going to get smashed” in the bout, noting: “Those are not the punches of an experienced boxer. These MMA guys can’t punch properly.”
Naturally, the comments section of Perry’s Instagram post also attracted numerous Paul fans, who took great delight in predicting the MMA fighter’s downfall.
“Jake inside two rounds,” wrote one supporter, while another mocked Perry for looking “slow and weak.” A third chimed in: “Jake is gonna sleep him so bad. Bro, [Perry] can’t even hit the pads properly.”
