Cardi B Denies Homophobia Accusations Following Social Media Clash with Nicki Minaj Fan.
The Bronx rap star took to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, July 23, to respond to a user who posted a video of himself spitting on her wax figure at Madame Tussauds Hollywood. The video shows the man standing next to Cardi’s lifelike statue, saying, “They put you in the dark for a reason, bitch. Nobody likes you.” He then spat in the wax figure’s face and called it a “bitch” before walking away. Appropriately, Nicki Minaj’s hit single “Starships” played in the background.
Cardi responded by questioning the man’s masculinity, writing, “But when I say be a MAN.” When another user asked if she would keep the same energy with the well-known blogger KenBarbie, she replied, “Ken doesn’t act like that and can assemble an Ikea outfit…. He’s a MAN [crying face emoji].”
The “Bodak Yellow” rapper was subsequently accused of being homophobic towards Nicki’s fan, but she swiftly denied the claim. “Stop with the fake homophobia narrative. I’m not homophobic. I don’t care what you like to f***, s***, and eat, but be a DAMN MAN, a grown-ass man spitting on my wax figure,” she wrote.
Despite the accusations, Cardi B has long been a vocal supporter of the LGBTQ community. In 2022, she clapped back at homophobes on X, writing, “Every bad bitch has a gay cousin… if you’re homophobic you just ugly.”
She also hosted a same-sex wedding with the support of former Cosby Show actress Raven-Symoné for her Facebook series Cardi Tries. “You’re probably wondering why I’m here,” Cardi said in the episode after surprising the lesbian couple on their special day. “I’m officiating a wedding for these two beautiful ladies. This is not only a special day for you guys, but it’s a special day for me too. I want to thank you guys for letting me be a part of your beautiful journey.”
The man who spat on Cardi’s wax figure responded to her “boy” jab by posting a photo of himself smiling next to Nicki Minaj’s wax figure at Madame Tussauds. He wrote: “Be a mother, be a wife[.] Worry about me being a boy when your husband is playing with women with a stick @NICKIMINAJ Nicki better #Barbz @BarbzFeedx.”
Despite the controversy, Cardi B’s support for the LGBTQ community remains steadfast. She continues to engage with fans and critics alike, maintaining her position as a prominent figure in both the music industry and social activism.
Cardi B’s recent clash with a Nicki Minaj fan and subsequent accusations of homophobia have sparked widespread discussion. However, her history of supporting the LGBTQ community and standing against homophobia speaks volumes. As the feud continues to unfold, Cardi B remains a vocal advocate for inclusivity and equality.
