Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga: Date and Venue Announced for September 2024 Fight
In September 2024, we will once again witness Canelo Alvarez step into the ring, but his opponent has remained a mystery until now.
The Mexican champion is set to face Edgar Berlanga in Las Vegas, Nevada. While many fans were hoping to see Canelo take on one of the biggest names in the sport to reaffirm his status, that is not what they will get in September.
Berlanga currently tops the WBA rankings, although the regular champion is Cuban fighter David Morrell Jr.
According to Mike Coppinger of ESPN, the multi-time Mexican champion Canelo will fight the Puerto Rican-born Berlanga as the mandatory challenger of the World Boxing Association (WBA). Thus, the two will battle for the super middleweight world title, which is currently held by the Guadalajara-born fighter.
Berlanga, 27, boasts an impressive record of 22-0-0 with 17 KOs. The Puerto Rican fighter had a match against Irish boxer Padraig McCrory in February this year. In that bout, Berlanga won by knockout in the sixth round.
This highly anticipated boxing match is scheduled for September 14, 2024, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Canelo’s most recent fight was against Jaime Munguia in May 2024. Known as Canelitas in his youth, Alvarez won that bout by unanimous decision in Las Vegas.
Fans are eagerly awaiting this showdown as Canelo Alvarez and Edgar Berlanga prepare to face off in what promises to be an electrifying match. Stay tuned for more updates and coverage as the fight date approaches.
