Kim Kardashian recently disclosed that one of her sons with ex-husband Kanye West has been diagnosed with vitiligo, a rare skin condition that causes patches of skin to lose their pigment. In an interview on the SHE MD podcast, Kim revealed that her son inherited vitiligo from her, as she herself has long struggled with another skin disorder, psoriasis.
Psoriasis, which Kim also deals with, results from an overactive immune system and manifests as scaly, inflamed patches on the skin, typically on the scalp, elbows, or knees. Kim’s psoriasis began when she turned 30, initially noticed by her mother, Kris Jenner. Initially skeptical, Kim confirmed the diagnosis with a dermatologist and has since managed the condition with treatments like cortisone shots.
While Kim’s psoriasis differs from her son’s vitiligo in how it affects the skin, she noted that her son’s diagnosis occurred during childhood, whereas her own symptoms started in adulthood. Despite challenges, Kim has openly discussed her journey with both conditions, raising awareness and emphasizing the importance of understanding and managing skin health issues.
