Schumacher ‘Liberated Others’ By Going Public – Hamilton Frankly Shared

Lewis Hamilton claims that Ralf Schumacher’s announcement that he is in a same-sex relationship will “free others” from speaking out. Schumacher revealed his news on social media earlier this week, receiving praise from his F1 colleagues.

Hamilton has long been a supporter of the LGBTQ+ community and often wears a pride flag on his racial helmet, while fighting for equal rights in several countries where homosexuality is illegal . When asked why he felt it took Schumacher so long to publicly reveal his sexuality, Hamilton told the media: “I think it’s clear he didn’t feel comfortable saying that in the past. .

“But I think it just shows that we are in a moment and can finally take that step and not be afraid. Hope everyone will say the same. I think so far I’ve only heard positive feedback from people.

“I think it’s because of the times we’re living in and the changes we’re going through. It all started when Seb [Vettel] and I stood on the track here, fighting against what the government was doing here. “When I wore a helmet in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and I know Ralf said it wasn’t a good idea to do those things. “But then he changed his mind. And even the fact that he took that step sent a positive message. And liberate others so they can do the same.”

‘F1 must do more to become more inclusive’
While Hamilton is pleased with the strides F1 has made in recent years, the seven-time world champion insists more needs to be done to make the sport more inclusive. “We’re in this little bubble,” he said. “I think in sports, I think it still has a long, long way to go. “On the one hand saying it’s inclusive of everyone, on the other hand actually making sure that people feel comfortable in that environment.

“I mean, this is a male-dominated space, and as far as I know, he was one of the first people to at least publicly speak out about this issue. “However, we are very inclusive in our team, but I think the sport needs to continue to do more to make people feel more comfortable, to make women feel more welcome in spaces This. “Because I know that not all of them are treated well in this space, so we have to do more.”
