According to former driver Ralf Schumacher, Lando Norris is not yet ready to become F1 world champion.
The British driver is currently second in the drivers’ championship standings, 84 points behind leader Max Verstappen. Norris has had an impressive campaign at McLaren and claimed his first grand prix win earlier this year at the Miami Grand Prix. The 24-year-old has come close to improving his winning record on multiple occasions, claiming four runner-up positions this year.
The last time he appeared at the British Formula 1 Automobile Championship, Norris once again hunted for victory, and the final victory belonged to compatriot Lewis Hamilton. Norris’ race was marred by the decision to fit soft tires for the final race, with Schumacher claiming that “little mistakes kept happening” with his racing technique.
McLaren should share the responsibility
However, Schumacher admitted that the McLaren team was responsible for missing this opportunity. “As a racer, you usually go into a race and you already know exactly what the tires are capable of,” he said. “The team knows that too.
“You have to give each other information. What happened? Someone drove into the pits earlier and did this and that to the tires. And then as a rider you can make a decision. “Norris is not ready yet. But that could also be due to the structure within the team. “Maybe it’s because his engineer isn’t strong enough. It’s always a very important person.”
