Jake Paul and Mike Perry Exchange Insults Ahead of July 20 Showdown
Jake Paul and Mike Perry didn’t hold back as they exchanged insults during a heated video conference call on the MMA Hour on Wednesday. This came after it was announced earlier in the week that Perry would replace boxing legend Mike Tyson, who had to withdraw from the July 20 event due to a health scare.
Mike Tyson’s Withdrawal
Mike Tyson, the former undisputed heavyweight champion, required medical attention after an ulcer flare-up during a flight from Miami to Los Angeles left him nauseous and dizzy. Paramedics boarded the plane upon its landing in LA to treat Tyson. Consequently, Tyson’s anticipated showdown with YouTuber-turned-fighter Jake Paul has been postponed to November 15, when Tyson hopes to be fit enough to compete professionally for the first time in nearly two decades.
The Heated Exchange
Paul and Perry wasted no time promoting their upcoming fight, starting with a fiery joint interview with Ariel Helwani. Perry kicked off the verbal sparring by referencing Tyson’s famous quote: “I know Mike Tyson says everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face, but I like getting punched in my face. So my plan is coming together nicely.”
Paul retorted sharply, “That’s because you’re a f***ing idiot. What makes me good at fighting is I don’t like getting punched in the face and I practice not to. That’s what I’m going to teach you in the sport of boxing, you little bitch.”
He continued, “This is not bare-knuckle. Not a bunch of old MMA fighters just running around punching each other bare-knuckle like some f***ing hooligans. I’ll show you a real sport.”
Their Past Encounters
The fight follows a history between the two fighters, who sparred during one of Paul’s fight camps. Paul recalled, “I was still just learning boxing, probably in my second year. Worked him all five rounds when I was at the gym, and now it’s going to be even crazier on July 20. That’s why I know I’m going to be able to knock him out because I’m just a completely different fighter. I already beat his ass in sparring and made him my son, and he’s even admitting that. He says he has a plan, but we don’t believe it. On July 20, I’m going to show the world the sparring session live.”
Perry’s Response
Perry fired back, “You’ve been fighting these cab drivers and these f**ing fat pieces of shit. You think you’re going to do anything to a real fcking man like me, you lost your mind. If you punch me in my face, I will smile and hit you back multiple times.”
Perry continued, “He’s tricked the world into thinking he’s fantastic. I’ve been doing this a long time and took the hard road. I’m looking to show everybody what a real fighter is. Everyone clip that once I beat his ass and then take this edit and go to the clip of me knocking him the f*ck out.”
Paul remained confident, responding, “Scene.”
Perry dismissed Paul’s bravado, saying, “Bro, you ain’t knocking out nothing. You’re soft as baby s***.”
The fiery exchange has set the stage for an intense showdown on July 20, with both fighters eager to prove themselves in the ring.
