‘Stop with the narrative’ – Angel Reese blasts critics and tells them to do their research. The WNBA star decided to draw a line under recent social media posts about her play style

Angel Reese didn’t hold back on social media as she fired back at a fan’s take on her evolving play style, despite her impressive rookie stats of 13.6 points and 13 rebounds per game. Even with those numbers, the WNBA star isn’t immune to scrutiny.

Selected as the seventh overall pick last year, Reese delivered a standout rookie season with the Chicago Sky, though it was cut short by a wrist injury. Before being sidelined, the 23-year-old earned an All-Star nod and shattered both league and franchise records. She racked up 26 double-doubles in the season, the second-most in a single WNBA season ever and the most by any rookie in history. Notably, 15 of those double-doubles came in consecutive games, setting yet another record. Reese also made history as the first rookie to notch a double-double (12 points, 11 rebounds) in the WNBA All-Star game.

Angel Reese gets emotional and makes admission over negativity she faces

Throughout her debut year, Reese formed a formidable frontcourt duo with Kamila Cardoso on defense, and the addition of Ariel Atkins only bolstered the Sky’s roster. Despite her undeniable impact, online debates have swirled among fans about how her playing style has allegedly shifted since her injury, with some claiming she’s lost her edge.

The controversy stems from Reese’s injury history, which dates back to her freshman year in 2020 when she broke her right foot, requiring surgery and a 12-week recovery. Some fans argue this setback has dulled her explosiveness. Fueling the discussion, a resurfaced video from her Maryland days showcased Reese pulling off slick moves like euro step layups—offensive flair less prominent in her recent play. The clip, captioned within the video as “Angel Reese when she was at Maryland before her injury,” was shared by a fan who wrote, “I’m jealous of people that got to witness this (Maryland) era of my goat in real time.”

Reese, however, wasn’t having it. She clapped back swiftly, pointing out the timeline error in the narrative. “Y’all literally don’t do yall research. this wasn’t before my injury so stop with the narrative lmfaoo,” the Chicago Sky forward tweeted on Thursday, shutting down the speculation.

With the WNBA season tipping off on May 17, Reese will have ample opportunity to silence her critics as the Chicago Sky face the Indiana Fever in a highly anticipated opening-weekend showdown. Meanwhile, debates about her play style linger, even as unrelated headlines—like Caitlin Clark’s championship aspirations being tested by a Celtics coach aiding a rival—continue to swirl around the league.
