Tesla Recalls Over 375,000 Vehicles Due to Critical Power Steering Issue
Tesla has recently announced the recall of more than 375,000 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles from the 2023 model year due to a power steering issue, according to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This problem could increase the risk of losing control, especially at low speeds, raising concerns among Tesla owners about vehicle safety.
Dangerous Fault in the Power Steering System
According to NHTSA, the issue originates from an overloaded printed circuit board (PCB) in the electronic power steering system. When the PCB is overstressed, it may cause a loss of power steering assist when the vehicle comes to a stop and then accelerates again. This could make it more difficult for drivers to steer, especially at low speeds, increasing the risk of accidents in heavy traffic or while parking.
Although this issue could pose a significant safety risk, Tesla has stated that no crashes, injuries, or fatalities related to the defect have been reported. However, the detection of the problem and the subsequent recall highlight the seriousness of the issue and raise questions about Tesla’s manufacturing quality control.
Tesla Releases Software Update to Fix the Issue
Instead of making hardware repairs, Tesla has quickly released a free over-the-air software update to address the issue. This approach, commonly used by Tesla in recent recalls, helps reduce repair costs and minimizes inconvenience for customers. However, it also raises concerns about whether software updates alone can fully resolve problems related to hardware malfunctions.
Tesla plans to send official recall notifications to affected vehicle owners starting March 25. Customers can check if their vehicle is impacted by visiting the NHTSA or Tesla website.
Growing Pressure on Tesla
This is not the first time Tesla has faced a major recall. In recent years, the company has dealt with multiple issues related to software glitches, the Autopilot system, and general safety concerns. As competition in the electric vehicle market intensifies, Tesla faces increasing scrutiny over the reliability and safety of its vehicles.
