Heartbreak for Charles Leclerc: Devastated After Ferrari Loses 2024 Constructor’s Title by Inches

The 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix delivered a bittersweet ending for Charles Leclerc and Ferrari as their valiant effort fell agonizingly short in the constructors’ championship battle. Despite an extraordinary drive from Leclerc and a strategic push from Carlos Sainz, McLaren clinched the title, leaving the Scuderia trailing by just 14 points.

Ferrari entered the weekend 21 points behind McLaren, hoping for a miracle at Yas Marina. The race seemed to promise drama when a first-lap collision between Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri reshuffled the order. Leclerc seized the opportunity, climbing an incredible 11 positions in the opening lap after starting P19. Ferrari’s bold strategy saw him secure a P3 finish, but it wasn’t enough as Lando Norris dominated the race, sealing McLaren’s victory.

Leclerc’s Emotional Struggles Post-Race
The devastation was evident as Leclerc, drained from his heroic effort, expressed his frustration over team radio:
“I don’t even know what to say. I don’t know what to say.”

Moments later, he banged his steering wheel in despair while his race engineer attempted to console him:
“Thank you, Charles. What a race. You couldn’t have done more today. This was special.”

Despite the reassuring words, Leclerc’s visible disappointment captured the heartbreak of the entire Ferrari camp.

Ferrari’s Final Push Falls Short
Sainz, who started P3, struggled to mount a serious challenge against Norris, whose flawless performance ensured McLaren’s first constructors’ title since 1998. Even if Sainz had overtaken Norris, McLaren would have secured the championship on race wins.

Reflecting on the season, Leclerc acknowledged the team’s immense effort:
“I knew Lap 1 had to be all or nothing. We tried everything, but it just wasn’t enough. It hurts when it’s this close, but we’ve given it our all,” he said via Formula1.com.

Despite the crushing outcome, Ferrari can take solace in Leclerc’s clean driving record and resilience, setting a strong foundation for the 2025 season.
