Luke Aikins made history when he became the first person to successfully jump out of a plane from a height of 7,600 m without a parachute.
According to AP, Luke Aikins, 42 years old, American, on July 30 “landed” on a 30×30 m net on the outskirts of Simi Valley in California, after jumping from a plane at an altitude of more than 7,600 m.
Aikins revealed that he almost had to cancel the challenge because he was asked to wear a parachute to ensure safety. According to Aikins, carrying a parachute is actually dangerous for him because the parachute increases the weight. Organizers then dropped this requirement minutes before the jump.
Aikins jumped with three other people, all of whom were carrying parachutes. One person holds the camera, the other person is responsible for blowing smoke so that the audience observing below can follow Aikins. Aikins removed his oxygen device and gave it to a third person when they reached a height where it was no longer needed.
The men then opened their parachutes while Aikins continued to fall and landed safely in the net. Aikins became the first person to survive making such a jump without a parachute.
Aikins is a stuntman and a safety and training consultant for the American Parachute Association. After successfully making the jump, Aikins thanked those who helped him prepare over the past two years, including those who built the support net and ensured its safety.
