Charles Leclerc recently had the unique opportunity to be a guest of the French Air Force, where he was treated to a thrilling two-day experience flying in their cutting-edge Rafale fighter jet. While the second day was much smoother for the Ferrari driver, the first day left him physically drained, sick, and ravenous.
Before taking to the skies, Leclerc underwent a thorough medical checkup, basic training, and lessons in a flight simulator. He also received parachute training in preparation for the intense ride. On the first day, the high G-forces during the three-hour flight proved to be too much for the F1 star, leaving him feeling ill. Afterward, he headed straight to a nearby McDonald’s drive-thru for a much-needed break, ordering fries and a Coke Zero to recover.
It was during this unexpected pitstop that Leclerc had a surprising encounter. As he waited for his food, a fan pulled up in a van and couldn’t believe his eyes. “Is this really Charles Leclerc?” the fan asked in disbelief. “It’s incredible!” he exclaimed, still in shock. After Leclerc confirmed his identity, the fan continued, “I can’t believe it, this is a lie!” before stepping out to snap a few pictures with the racing driver. As a lighthearted joke, the fan added, “I don’t know what you’re doing here in Orange, but you should go to Monaco, it’s better!”
The second day of flying, however, was a far more thrilling experience for the 27-year-old. Having grown more accustomed to the jet’s agility, Leclerc was given control of the Rafale during a high-altitude climb, experiencing extreme vertical G-forces that put his physical limits to the test. After landing, Leclerc shared how incredible the experience was, even admitting that supersonic flight was a challenge. Despite the difficulties, he expressed his gratitude to the pilots who allowed him to take control and truly feel the power of the Rafale in the skies.
