Gina Schumacher took the surname of her new husband, Iain Bethke, at their wedding on September 28 – which hasn’t sat well with Michael Schumacher’s former manager.
Gina married Iain in a private ceremony last month where guests were reportedly asked to hand over their phone to avoid any photos leaking from the ceremony.
Her father, who hasn’t been seen in public since his life-altering skiing incident 11 years ago, was reported to have been present for the wedding.
And according to Bild, he would have witnessed his daughter change her name from Schumacher to Bethke.
The 27-year-old changed her name on her Facebook profile to Gina Bethke, although she has kept the Schumacher name on her Instagram account.
The decision to go down the traditional route of taking her husband’s name hasn’t gone down well with Willi Weber, who managed Schumacher during the height of his F1 career.
Weber feels Gina has made a mistake in supposedly ditching the Schumacher family name.
Weber said: “Why would you just drop such a big name? I don’t understand it!
“Giving up a name like that. It’s a brand.
“It’s connected to her father. I wouldn’t have done that.
“But that’s her decision! The other is my opinion.”
However, it’s been suggested that Gina may have still kept the Schumacher name after all.
The F1 icon’s daughter, who followed in her mum’s footsteps by making a successful equestrian career, recently entered a tournament in Texas as ‘Gina Schumacher Bethke’.
But the German publication Bild claim that Gina is referred to as ‘Bethke’ over ‘Schumacher’ among her close friends.
The newlyweds live in Gordonville, Texas, and ran a ranch where they breed Quarter Horses.
There’s been little to no details leaked from their wedding last month with the Schumacher family maintaining their wall of secrecy.
Schumacher is understood to be living at the family home in Mallorca ever since his near-fatal crash in December 2013.
His wife, Corinna, has controlled the family estate ever since and runs a tight ship in helping keep her husband’s condition private.
