Tributes are flooding in following the heartbreaking news of Liam Payne’s death at the age of 31.
The former One Direction star passed away after falling several stories at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Wednesday, Oct. 16. He is survived by his 7-year-old son, Bear Grey.
Charlie Puth expressed his shock and sadness on Instagram. “I am in shock right now. Liam was always so kind to me. He was one of the first major artists I got to work with. I can’t believe he is gone…” Puth, 32, shared in his Instagram Story, along with a video of the two laughing together. He added the caption, “I’m so upset right now, may he rest in peace.”
In another Instagram Story, Puth shared a screenshot of Payne mentioning how they wrote a song together. “I am so sorry,” Puth added. He also posted a photo of the pair without any caption.
Zedd, who collaborated with Payne on “Get Low,” shared his grief on X (formerly Twitter). “RIP Liam… I can’t believe this is real… absolutely heartbreaking,” he posted.
Paris Hilton expressed her condolences on X, writing, “So upsetting to hear the news of @LiamPayne passing😢. Sending love and condolences to his family & loved ones. 🙏. RIP my friend🥺.”
Ty Dolla $ign shared a photo of Payne on Instagram Stories, adding, “Just talked to you 2 days ago my guy. Ima miss u fr fr sucio💔💔.”
Juicy J wrote on X: “R.I.P. Liam Payne wow I can’t believe it prayers up for the family 🙏🏿.”
E.L. James, author of the *Fifty Shades of Grey* series, paid tribute on X. Payne had collaborated with Rita Ora on the soundtrack for *Fifty Shades Freed* in 2018. “I am heartbroken to hear of the tragic passing of Liam Payne. I can barely believe it. Sincere condolences to his family. 💔,” James wrote.
Flavor Flav also mourned on X, writing, “RIP to Liam Payne,,, much too young 🙏🏾.”
Broadcaster Piers Morgan shared his shock on X, stating, “Good grief… what a shocking tragedy.”
Singer Mabel shared her condolences on Instagram Stories: “LIAM & FOR SO MANY YEARS I ALWAYS KNEW I COULD CALL YOU FOR SUPPORT AND BIG BROTHERLY ADVICE BUT NOW YOU’RE GONE… MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH LIAM’S FAMILY AND FRIENDS DURING THIS TIME. YOU’LL BE SO MISSED.”
Brazilian singer-actress Maisa Silva expressed her sadness on X, saying, “My condolences to everyone who, like me, grew up listening to 1D and who cultivated so many good moments with their music. It’s so sad that all of this 🙁 doesn’t seem real.”
Several former X-Factor contestants also paid their respects. “RIP Liam Payne 💔 condolences to friends and family,” posted John and Edward Grimes, an Irish music duo from season 6. Rylan Clark, a contestant from season 9, wrote, “Extremely sad news. V tragic and so young. RIP Liam x,” while season 9 winner James Arthur shared a photo with Payne on Instagram Stories.
None of Payne’s former One Direction bandmates have publicly commented yet.
