Michael Schumacher’s former team-mate Johnny Herbert has his ‘doubts’ on whether the seven-time world champion will ever make a full public appearance again.
The F1 icon was back in the news recently after reports emerged that he was present at his daughter’s wedding last weekend.
No pictures have been leaked of the event with Gina Schumacher posting one single photo from her wedding to Iain Bethke.
The suggestion that Schumacher was present for his daughter’s wedding led to hope from some of his die-hard fans that the wall of privacy around his condition was coming down.
The sporting icon has remained hidden away from the public eye since his horrific skiing crash in 2013.
Only a select few people outside of the Schumacher family have been allowed access to visit him at his heavily-guarded home in Switzerland.
Herbert, who was Schumacher’s team-mate for his first two F1 world titles with Benetton, has not seen the German racing superstar and isn’t privy to inside knowledge about his current condition.
Like other F1 fans, Herbert only knows what is reported on in the media and, the longer time goes on, he fears Schumacher may never be seen in public again.
“I can’t comment because I really don’t know about the situation. No one does,” Herbert told CasinoHawks.
“It sounds better. But is he able to enjoy that moment? I don’t know but let’s hope so.
“It would be wonderful if we did start seeing him but the longer it goes on and we don’t, there’s always that doubt.”
The Schumacher family have maintained radio silence on his current condition but Elisabetta Gregoraci, former partner of Flavio Briatore, claimed the former Ferrari driver now communicates with his eyes.
She said in 2020: “Michael doesn’t speak, he communicates with his eyes.
“Only three people can visit him and I know who they are.
“They moved to Spain and his wife has set up a hospital in that house.”
However, the Schumacher family have reportedly ‘widefuly refuted’ her claims.
