Fans have hailed Daniel Dubois’s thumping right hand to knock out Anthony Joshua in the fifth round and successfully defend his IBF world heavyweight title in their historic Wembley clash.

Dubois knocked down AJ four times in front of 96,000 and had his opponent struggling for much of the fight after landing a long-range right near the end of the first round.

Joshua had no choice but to take the risk and hurt Dubois near the end of the fourth round, landing another powerful right in the fifth, but he followed up with a powerful right hand in the fourth and was knocked out.

Both fighters were throwing punches at the same time but Dubois’s punch was quicker and he delivered the punch that finished his 34-year-old opponent.

‘What a punch,’ another wrote, accompanied by three shocked face emojis.

‘Oh my god, that counter was horrible,’ another exclaimed.

‘Ruiz took his soul. Usyk took his belt. Dubois took his legacy,’ one wrote.

‘Demolition job. What a great performance by Dubois,’ another said.

After Dubois threw a surprise punch at Joshua when AJ seemed unable to land a punch in the first round, the dynamic of the fight changed.

Joshua struggled to find his rhythm and each punch from Dubois seemed to hurt more.

With three 10-8 rounds and one 10-9 round, Joshua had no choice but to attack Dubois’ weak spot and try to break his opponent’s chin.

But his plan failed when Dubois, who he thought could land a decisive punch to the jaw, got there first and finished him off.

Afterwards, Joshua admitted he wanted to “get it started” in the ring and said he was “angry with myself”.

‘Credit goes to him and his team. We tried our luck and it didn’t work out,’ he told TNT Sports.

‘You know, I was ready to go into the ring, but I kept my cool, I was very professional and I respected my opponent.

‘I always tell myself I’m a fighter fighting for life… We just keep playing the odds.

‘I was up against a strong, fast opponent and there were a lot of mistakes on my part, but that’s the game.’
