“I Wonder What The Hell They Did All Week”: Rex Ryan Comes Hard At Dallas Cowboys Defense

The Dallas Cowboys’ defense was heavily criticized following a poor performance against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3. Coach Rex Ryan called their defense ‘hot garbage,’ citing lack of preparation and physicality. With crucial games approaching, including one against the New York Giants, the Cowboys must address these issues promptly to turn their season around.

The Dallas Cowboys’ defensive performance in Week 3 against the Baltimore Ravens was nothing short of a disaster, prompting harsh criticism from NFL analysts and fans alike. Veteran coach Rex Ryan, known for his fiery demeanor, didn’t mince words when he called the Cowboys’ defense “hot garbage” on ESPN’s pregame show.

Rex Ryan Blasts Cowboys Defense After Tough Loss

Former coach Rex Ryan’s sharp words were echoed by many after Dallas’ 28-25 loss, a game in which the score didn’t reflect their early performance.

For much of the game, the Cowboys were outplayed. In the first 45 minutes, they trailed 28-6, as the Ravens dominated the line of scrimmage. It wasn’t until the fourth quarter that Dallas managed to close the gap, thanks to a 19-point surge. However, by that point, the Ravens had seemingly relaxed their intensity.

Reflecting on the loss, Ryan was left wondering aloud, “what the hell they did all week,” a question aimed at their poor preparation and execution. Ryan’s frustration didn’t end there.
“I’m seeing a team that, I wonder what the hell they did all week. … It can happen to anybody one week, but not back-to-back weeks in your own building.”

During ESPN’s Get Up, he expressed surprise at the Cowboys’ inability to contain Derrick Henry, suggesting they were unprepared for his heavy workload. While he acknowledged that such performances can happen once, he emphasized that for it to happen two weeks in a row, especially at home, is alarming.

Ryan wasn’t the only one pointing out Dallas’ flaws. Former Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett also highlighted their lack of physicality, which was evident in their Week 3 performance. The Cowboys’ failure to control the game physically raises concerns about their readiness for the upcoming weeks.

Dallas has little time to regroup as they prepare to face the New York Giants in Week 4. This Thursday night matchup comes at a critical point in their season, especially with challenging games on the horizon. After the Giants, they will need to face the Steelers in Pittsburgh, the Lions at home, and then travel to face the Atlanta Falcons, followed by a home game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The road ahead is daunting, and unless the Cowboys can address their defensive issues and improve their physical play, the coming weeks could present even more challenges. It’s a pivotal moment for Dallas, and how they respond will determine the trajectory of their season.
