Lennox Lewis Says He Would’ve Knocked-out Oleksandr Usyk With One Of His “Mean Uppercuts.”

In a recent interview that sent shockwaves through the boxing community, former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis boldly claimed that he would have knocked out current unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk with one of his signature “mean uppercuts.” Known for his devastating power, precision, and ring intelligence, Lewis didn’t hold back when discussing how he would fare against the Ukrainian star if they had ever faced off in their primes.

Lennox Lewis is widely regarded as one of the greatest heavyweight boxers in history, with an illustrious career that saw him defeat legends like Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, and Vitali Klitschko. Standing at 6’5″ with an 84-inch reach, Lewis had an extraordinary combination of power and technical skill that made him a nightmare for opponents. His uppercut, in particular, was a weapon that often left his rivals stunned, and it became one of the most feared punches in his arsenal. He used it to devastating effect in fights like his knockout victory over Michael Grant, where a thunderous uppercut left Grant crumbling to the canvas.

On the other side of this hypothetical matchup, Oleksandr Usyk has made a name for himself as one of the most talented and versatile boxers of his generation. The Ukrainian southpaw has dazzled fans with his speed, footwork, and boxing IQ, capturing titles in both the cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions. His recent victories over Anthony Joshua showcased his ability to outmaneuver and outclass much larger opponents, proving that he belongs among the elite in the heavyweight division.

The prospect of a fight between these two champions, even if only in theory, has sparked a spirited debate among boxing enthusiasts. Fans have begun to imagine how Lewis’s physicality and knockout power would match up against Usyk’s agility, quick reflexes, and technical brilliance.

“Usyk is great, but I had something different,” Lewis explained in the interview. “My uppercut would’ve been the perfect answer to his style. I would’ve closed the distance, waited for the right moment, and then, bam! One of my mean uppercuts would’ve ended it.” His confident tone suggested that he not only believed in his power but also saw clear vulnerabilities in Usyk’s defensive game that he would have exploited.

Lewis’s statement has stirred up plenty of reactions, with some fans supporting his claim, arguing that his combination of size, power, and technical prowess would have been too much for Usyk to handle. “Lennox was a monster in the ring, and his uppercut was lethal. If he caught Usyk clean, it could definitely be lights out,” one fan wrote on social media.

However, others aren’t so sure. Many pointed out that Usyk’s ability to adapt, his incredible footwork, and his ring generalship could have made him a tough opponent for Lewis. “Usyk’s movement would have given Lewis problems, just like he’s been giving everyone else in the heavyweight division trouble. It wouldn’t have been as easy as Lennox thinks,” another fan responded.

It’s also worth noting that Usyk has shown an impressive ability to take punches from bigger fighters. During his fights with Anthony Joshua, Usyk absorbed some solid shots yet managed to maintain his composure and fight back effectively. This resilience would make him a challenging target, even for someone as powerful as Lennox Lewis.

Boxing experts have also weighed in, with many noting that a matchup between Lewis and Usyk would be a fascinating clash of styles. Lewis, with his size, strength, and ability to fight at range, would likely look to impose his will early, using his jab to set up that devastating uppercut. Usyk, on the other hand, would aim to outmaneuver and outbox Lewis, staying elusive and picking his moments to attack.

While we’ll never see this dream fight take place, Lennox Lewis’s bold claim has certainly reignited interest in fantasy matchups between boxing legends of different eras. Could his “mean uppercut” have been the key to defeating a modern master like Oleksandr Usyk? The debate rages on, but one thing is certain: both men have secured their places in boxing history as champions who dominated in their respective times, leaving fans to forever wonder how such an epic battle might have played out in the ring.
