LeBron James Family Foundation Unveils Game-Changing Blueprint for Transforming Communities

In a heartfelt appearance on PBS-TV’s The Chavis Chronicles in Washington, D.C., Gloria James, along with family members of NBA superstar LeBron James, shed light on the remarkable impact of the LeBron James Family Foundation (LJFF) and its commitment to empowering communities.

The foundation, which started in LeBron’s hometown of Akron, Ohio, has become a national blueprint for athletes, entertainers, and public figures aiming to give back to their communities. Gloria James, LeBron’s mother, proudly highlighted her son’s achievements both on and off the basketball court.

“I’m incredibly honored to be LeBron’s mother. He has accomplished so much for our community and beyond,” Gloria expressed, emphasizing LeBron’s legacy extends well beyond his athletic prowess. “He’s not just the GOAT on the court; he’s a humanitarian, a great father, a husband, and a champion for his community, especially for people of color and those often overlooked.”

Through its I PROMISE program, the LJFF supports over 1,400 students in the Akron area, providing a comprehensive approach that extends beyond academics. Gloria underscored that the foundation’s work is about more than improving graduation rates—it’s about redefining the meaning of family and community support.

“We realized that helping just one individual in a family isn’t enough,” Gloria explained. “We address everything from housing to food insecurity. Many families struggle to provide enough food for the month, so we have pantries to support them.”

Curtis James, LeBron’s uncle and a foundation assistant, echoed Gloria’s thoughts, sharing insights into the foundation’s latest endeavors, including a new documentary aimed at inspiring others.

“We just released a documentary, and I use my podcast to inspire people. We want others to do the right thing,” Curtis explained. “Akron will always need inspiration, and I strive to set an example for others to be better.”

The foundation’s influence has even extended to higher education, with the establishment of the LeBron James Family Foundation School of Education at the University of Akron, fostering future educators dedicated to community upliftment.

“What I’ve learned through our foundation is that helping your community is one of the most important jobs you can have,” Gloria, who also serves as a third-grade teacher’s aide at the I PROMISE School, remarked. “Especially if you have a platform to do so, you need to put your resources to work.”

The James family remains deeply committed to Akron and its residents, setting a standard for others to follow. “We’re ready to share our blueprint with athletes, actors, and mayors from other cities, helping them build their communities,” Gloria noted. “We’ve changed lives, and we want to inspire others to do the same.”

Reflecting on LeBron’s journey, Gloria expressed immense pride not just in his basketball achievements, but in his dedication to his community. “He’s always been a caring, compassionate person. What’s most important to him are the changes he makes in people’s lives off the court,” she affirmed.

As the James family looks forward, excitement builds for the possibility of LeBron playing alongside his son, Bronny, for the Los Angeles Lakers. “That will be incredibly special. I know LeBron is thrilled at the thought of sharing the court with his son,” Gloria said, her pride evident.

Despite their success, the James family remains grounded and focused on their mission to uplift their community. “LeBron has always done what he promised to do—help his community, just like he received help growing up,” Gloria concluded
